http://homepage.mac.com/knarf/MacOSaiX/

This is the only Mac based Mosaic program I can find. I don't like to use Windows more than I have to, but I'm happy to for my mosaics because Andrea Mosaic is so much better than all the others I've tried.

However, MacOSaiX, linked above, has one VERY cool feature: You can give it a word or two or three and it will do a Google image search to create the tiles. I've yet to get one to complete sucessfully from that feature, but it's been pretty close. But no matter how I do it (same collection of tiles as I use for Andrea Mosaic, for instance) the results are never as good as Andrea Mosaic.

look at sourceforge:

the best in my opinion:
Mosaic.net: http://mosaicdotnet.sourceforge.net/ or http://sourceforge.net/projects/mosaicdotnet

Interesting Shockwave project using photomosaics. A lot of repetition, but still pretty cool. :)

Uh, perhaps I misunderstood the topic. :) It's a cool project, but not Mosaic creating software.

Not mosaic software as such, but Andrea has generously agreed to allow me to post a link to zumyn - http://www.zumyn.com

It's a website that allows people to upload/import photos and generate mosaics that can be ordered as prints.

here are some projects that I used Andreamosaic to create.

self portrait using the web export:

A tile mosaic that I actually built:

For the tile piece, I photographed and split it up so each tile was it's own image.

thanks Andrea, for the great software. Now if you could only add a feature that would enable 90, 180, and 270 degree rotation of the images with a limit that each individual tile would be used only once it would be awesome.

It already has the option not to use any tile more than once. I use that option myself a lot.

Hello all,

This is not a link to a mosaic-site but more an announcement if you are a Linux-user and would like to try AM on your machine. The good thing is: AM works perfectly under WINE.

Linux has its own mosaic-creator called Metapixel, but that's not so good actually.

For more info about WINE visit: http://www.winehq.org
Info about Linux-ubuntu visit: http://www.ubuntu.com

take care,

Nuno
