Hi,
I am new to this software and would like to say first of all it is amazing! I just have one small issue I hope is easily fixed. When I set the amount of tiles I end up either having part tiles on the left or bottom edge or in some cases both. I figure i must being doing something basic wrong. Hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

This is because AndreaMosaic maintains the aspect ratio of the original image that you submit. If you don't want the border then you can do two things:
A) Cut the border of the final mosaic using a image software (there are many free around, like Paint.NET or GIMP).

or

B) Cut/Resize your original image so that the tiles that will placed inside will fit exactly. This takes some calculations to do, and you may specify the number of tiles per row (parameter Tile Size). If for example you will build a mosaic using AndreaMosaic Square, and your mosaic will be made with rows of 10 tiles each then each tile will have a width of Width.Original.Image/10.
So the Height of the Original Image must be equal to the number of columns * Width.Original.Image/10.
I think solution A) is easier to do :)

Hi Andrea,

First - thanks for the great software! i tried using Photoshop's "Contact Sheet II" feature, but it's no good...

I am using the NTSC version, since my photos are 2x3.
I have exactly 18x18=324 photos, and i want an 18 by 18 mosaic with all the photos.
I chose the following parameters:
Mosaic size: 10x15cm
Mosaic Resolution: 300 PPI
Tile Size: 18 tiles x row
Use same tile up to: no duplicates
Use all tiles in the collection
Alas, in the "Mosaic information" the tile count is 19x19, and the output mosaic indeed has 19 rows where the bottom one is very thin, and 19 columns here the rightmost one is also very thin.

How can i create an exact 18 by 18 mosaic?

Thanks very much!
Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan,

1. Be sure that the main image has an exact aspect ratio of 3:2 on the pixel count. If your main image is 1000x667 pixels then it's not an exact 3:2 because 1000/3*2 = 666.666 and not 667 pixels. Resize your main image to 990x660 pixels for example. It's enough for your needs. Then it is correct to use Tile Size: 18 tiles x row.

2. Set the Mosaic Size to a value that is a exact multiple of 18, and also each resulting tile needs to be an exact 3:2 aspect ratio. You want a 10x15cm image, if you set this value in the Mosaic Size then you will read in the Mosaic Information area that your final Mosaic will be 1771x1180 pixels. This is not a multiple of 18. We can use a slightly bigger value, set Mosaic size to 1800x1200 pixels or just to "1800 pixel". In that case the resulting tile size is 100x66 pixels. But 100*18 x 66*18 = 1800x1188 pixels, you see it is not exactly 1800x1200 pixels so we need another row. The solution is to use a Mosaic Size of "1890 pixel", in that case each tile is 105x70 pixel (perfect 3:2) and the mosaic is 105*18 x 70*18 = 1890x1260 pixel. A perfect 18x18.
