Has anyone else had this error?

I've been trying to use some video footage shot on my iphone in order to create a mosaic but every time I try to use a video as a source for the tiles I get this error "Unable to read the video 01-80040154". I have tried installing the VfW codecs and have even tried to convert the video files to .mpg instead of their current .avi format but I still get the same error.

Has anybody got any ideas how to get around this?

I've tried downloading the latest version (as well as trying a re-install) however I am still having the same problem.

Hi,

Are you using Mac or Linux? Under that OS until know I wasn't able to use that feature. It's something I have to fix (by upgrading to a more recent technology).
Are your files 8 bit videos (for example Flash based Videos), in that case try the latest beta version which support also this kind of images.
Did you followed the instructions on how to install the VfW codecs?

Thank you for a very prompt reply. In answer to your post, I'm using Windows XP. As fas as I'm aware I have installed the codecs correctly. I'm unsure how to identify if the files are 8-bit or not. All I can tell you is that they were originally recorded on my iPhone then transferred to my computer (as .avi files). I've since tried to convert them to .mpg. The new .mpg's play in Windows Media player, however, they still bring the same error message as the .avi's.

If you could please provide a link to the beta version I would be happy to try that and let you know if that solves the problem.

Thanks in advance. I hope this new information helps.

I tried installing the beta, however, this has not helped with the error message that I am getting.

We need to be sure that you have the correct Codec installed for your Video.
First step is to find out what codec we need.

1. Download and Run the GSpot program (more information). Add your video to it. It will show you what codec is required. In the following example we need a DX50 codec (see the Red Rectangle, DX50 equals to the DivX codec)

Another free software that tells you about the Codec MediaInfo:

What is the Codec of your Video?

2. Find and Install the required Codec.

See the download page of AndreaMosaic where you find the link and the instructions to install some Codecs contained in the K-Lite Codec Pack. Please follow carefully those instructions. The "K-Lite: Version 5.6.1 Full" contains several VfW Codecs: XVid, DivX, etc:

If this doesn't help then we have two solutions:
A) Find somewhere else the correct Codec for your video.
or
B) Use a program to convert your Video into one of the K-Lite supported codecs. For example the free AviDemux.

Note: WMV files are right now not supported. You must convert them into an AVI file (for example), see the post below.

Steps to convert a WMV file into an AVI file (to be used with AndreaMosaic):

1. Download, install/unzip and run the free AviDemux program.

2. Open your video file and select the destination format:
Video Codec: XVid
Audio Codec: AC3
File Format: AVI
Image

Those settings are just an example. You can use other supported Codecs. For AndreaMosaic I suggest the MPEG-4 XVid.

3. Add Job

Select File -> Add to Job List. Then insert a jobname and the Output file. In this case C:\greenpeace.avi
Image

4. View and Run Job

Select File -> View Job List. Then press button Run All Job.

Running Job:

When the process is complete you will have the final AVI file that you can use with AndreaMosaic.

Andrea, here are a couple of screenshots, which I hope will show that I already have the correct codec installed.

The first one is from the G-Spot program listed above. The second is from FFDSHOW. N.B. The second image is shown as two images as I couldn't expand the window, so had to take one shot (then move the scroll bar) then the other.

I hope these clarify my situation.

Thanks in advance.

Until I find a solution for fully support for Quicktime MOV files I suggest you to convert it to an AVI using the above example. I will work on it in the next days.
